Privacy notice

Who we are
DuikRadar is a dive log and dive-site app in private beta. The DuikRadar owner is responsible for your data.
Contact details of the person responsible for DuikRadar are added here before the private beta opens to external testers. Internal testers can contact the DuikRadar team directly.
What we store
Account: your email address and a securely hashed password (handled by our authentication provider).
Profile: display name, handle and your sharing choices. Profiles and dive logs are private by default.
Dive logs you enter or import, including imported dive-computer files, depth profiles, the computer model and serial number and the entry GPS position. Depth profile, computer details and GPS position are visible to you only.
Certification and insurance cards you scan, and insurance details. These files are private; certificates are only seen by an authorised reviewer.
Dive sites you propose and reports you send. Proposed sites become part of the public catalog without your name.
Who can see your dives
Who can see your dive logs is one setting in your Profile ("Who can see your dives") that applies to all your dives, past and future; you do not choose it per dive. Private (the default): only you. Followers: your followers can read the whole log of each dive (date and time, depths, times, gases, conditions, configuration, dive-type tags and notes) and see your name and the date of the dive on the dive-site page. Public: the same for everyone signed in while your profile is public (only your followers while your profile is private). When you change the setting, it applies to all your dives at once. The GPS position, depth profile and dive-computer details always stay private to you.
Following
With a public profile, anyone signed in can follow you right away, without your approval, and then sees the dives you share with followers. With a private profile, you accept or decline each follow request. A diver you declined or removed always needs your approval to follow you again, also when your profile is public.
When you ask to follow someone, they see your display name and handle with the request, even if your profile is private. Divers can find a public profile by name or handle; a private profile is found only by its exact handle, and then only the handle is shown.
Only you can see your lists of followers, the divers you follow and your follow requests. Divers who can see your profile also see how many followers you have and how many divers you follow. When you remove a follower or decline a request, the other diver is not notified. Your follows and follow requests are deleted with your account.
Buddy calls
Buddy calls are shown to signed-in divers only. We store the calls you post (a dive site, or a town from our place list with a radius; the dates and your dive plan), your requests to join and the calls you declined. Other divers see an organizer's name only if that profile is public (or they are an approved follower); otherwise they see "DuikRadar diver". When you ask to join a call, its organizer sees your display name, and once the organizer accepts you, you see the organizer's name even if their profile is private. Declining a call only hides it for you: the organizer is not told and nobody else can see it. An area call stores the town and radius, never your location. "Use my location" on the buddy board sends your position, rounded to about 1 km, with that one search and does not store it.
Buddy chat
Each buddy call has a group chat for its organizer and the divers the organizer accepted. Only they can read it. The organizer and each accepted diver see each other's display name (or @handle), even with a private profile; the accepted divers see one another's names only if that profile is public or they are an approved follower, and otherwise a number such as "Buddy 2". Divers accepted later can read earlier messages too. If you give up your place or the organizer removes you, you lose access to the whole chat at once. We store the messages (text and time; no photos or files), the meeting plan the organizer sets (time, place and note) and when you last read the chat. Deleting a message replaces it with "Message deleted" for everyone. The chat can be opened until 7 days after the dive dates; after that nobody can open it in the app, but the messages stay stored until the organizer deletes the call (which deletes the chat) or until you delete your account (which deletes your messages). New messages reach the app through our database provider (Supabase) while it is open. If you report a message, we store your reason and note with a copy of that message (text, time and author) so the DuikRadar team can review it; nobody in the chat is told who reported it. That copy is kept after the message or the call is deleted and is removed when its author deletes their account; reports you sent are deleted with your account.
Without an account
Without an account you can search dive sites in the DuikRadar app by name, town or your current location and see where they are: their name, region, country and position on the map. Depth, dive types, access, parking, permits, descriptions, logged dives, dive centres and road distances, and everything personal, are for signed-in divers. DuikRadar stores no account or profile data about you. Your searches (the text you typed, or the place or position you searched around) and requests for a site's location go to our database provider (Supabase), which receives your IP address with them; DuikRadar does not store them. The app also asks for the number of dive sites, countries and dive centres, shown on the account screens.
Location
Your location is used only when you tap "Use my current location" for a one-time search. It is sent with that search request and not stored. DuikRadar never tracks your location in the background.
Why we use it
To provide the app: your logbook, search, buddy planning, reminders and certificate review (performance of the agreement with you). We do not sell data, show ads or use tracking or analytics.
Where your data is
Database and private files: Supabase, hosted in the European Union (Ireland).
Web version: Vercel. Maps: map tiles from OpenFreeMap, which receives your IP address when it loads tiles. App builds are made with Expo.
iPhone and Android app: the map library (MapLibre) is loaded from the unpkg.com CDN, which receives your IP address. Searches that match no site or place in our catalog may go to your phone's own geocoding service (Apple or Google).
Expiry reminders are local notifications on your phone; no push server is used.
How long
As long as you keep your account. When you delete your account (Profile → Delete account) your profile, logs, files, certificates, insurance and device connections are removed immediately; backups are overwritten within the provider's backup period. During the private beta, test data may be reset; we tell testers before that happens.
Your rights
You can see and correct your data in the app, delete your account in the app, and ask for a copy of your data or object to its use via the contact above. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in Belgium: the Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit).
